We’re Hiring: Commis Chef

Since reopening the Cross Keys Inn in 2023, we have built a strong reputation for our welcoming atmosphere, quality food and lively themed food nights and we’re super proud to be the Scottish Thistle Awards Pub of the Year 2023, 2024 and 2025.
Now, we’re looking for a Commis Chef to join our kitchen team. If you’re looking for your next step into a busy professional kitchen and have some experience under your belt, this is a fantastic opportunity to learn and grow in a well-respected, community-focused pub.
🔪 What You’ll Be Doing:
- Assisting the senior chefs with prep and service
- Contributing to seasonal menus and popular theme nights
- Maintaining high food hygiene and kitchen cleanliness standards
- Helping with stock rotation and deliveries
- Being part of a creative, supportive team
- After training, running a quiet service on your own (e.g. Breakfast – max 14 covers)
👨🍳 What We’re Looking For:
- Kitchen or food prep experience essential
- Level 2 Food Safety & Hygiene Certificate
- Passion about food and the Scottish Borders
- Willingness to learn and a strong work ethic
- Positive attitude and team spirit
- Flexibility to work mornings, evenings and weekends

- Salary £22,500 (35 hours/week)
